Research-based news explainer. Everything below is labeled confirmed, reported or not announced.

The short answer

Grand Theft Auto VI launches on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only. Rockstar has not announced a PC version, a PC release date or PC system requirements. A report from GamesBeat, based on four anonymous sources, says the PC version is planned for the first three months of 2027, but Rockstar has not confirmed it. Until it does, treat any PC date as a rumor.

Rockstar’s announcement describes the launch game as a single-player experience. Take-Two has said it will keep supporting the existing GTA Online after GTA 6 launches, and Rockstar has not announced an online mode for GTA 6.

What Take-Two has actually said about PC

  • In comments reported in May 2026, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick effectively said GTA 6 will not come to PC on day one, because Rockstar focuses first on the console audience it sees as its core consumer (TechRadar, citing Bloomberg).
  • On the 21 May earnings call, Zelnick said the company’s games eventually come to all platforms, without committing to a PC date (Forbes).
  • At a shareholder meeting, Take-Two described its strategy as launching on platforms where there is a meaningful audience over time (Screen Rant).

None of these statements names GTA 6 for PC or gives a date. They are broad company comments, not a PC announcement.

How long Rockstar has taken before

GameGap between console and PC
GTA IVAbout 8 months
Red Dead Redemption 2About 13 months
GTA VAbout 19 months (September 2013 to April 2015)

These gaps come from press coverage, and past timelines do not decide what Rockstar will do with GTA 6. They only show that Rockstar has historically released PC versions after the console launch.

The Q1 2027 report: how much to trust it

On 13 October 2026, GamesBeat reported that Rockstar plans to release the PC version in the first three months of 2027, citing four industry sources who asked not to be named. That would be about four months after the console launch. Rockstar did not respond to a request for comment, and as of 19 October neither Rockstar nor Take-Two had confirmed or denied the window. GamesBeat itself notes the PC version would still have to meet the same quality bar as the console release before it ships. Other outlets that repeated the story also advise treating it as unconfirmed.

Editorial opinion: a report from four sources deserves attention, but it is still a report. Plans can change, and Rockstar has delayed GTA 6 before. We would not plan a hardware purchase around a January to March date.

What PC players can do now

  • Do not buy hardware for GTA 6 yet. There are no official PC system requirements, so any “GTA 6 ready” claim is a guess. Our build, buy or wait guide explains how to decide while memory prices are high, and why parts cost so much covers the background.
  • Be suspicious of any “GTA 6 PC” download, key or launcher. Because no PC version has been announced, offers like these are not from Rockstar.
  • If you want to play on launch day, console is the only confirmed route. The standard edition costs $79.99 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
  • If you are waiting for PC, follow official channels. A PC announcement would come from Rockstar or Take-Two. Take-Two is reported to publish quarterly results on 9 November 2026, which is one date to watch, though it may say nothing about PC.
  • Check prices before the Black Friday sales. Our Black Friday hardware guide explains how to tell real deals from bad ones.

What we do not know yet

  • Whether and when a PC version will be officially announced.
  • PC system requirements, graphics options and storefronts.
  • Whether GTA 6 will have an online mode and how it would work on PC.
  • Whether the 19 November console date holds. Take-Two has reaffirmed it, but we cannot rule out changes.
