The short answer
Price check: lowest new US prices found by PC Gamer, 18 August 2026 (USD)
- RX 9070 XT (16GB): $719.99, against a $599 MSRP.
- RTX 5070 (12GB): $763.30, against a $549 MSRP.
- RTX 5070 Ti (16GB): $1,087.99, against a $749 MSRP.
- On those prices the Radeon cards cost less and carry as much or more VRAM, which is why PC Gamer names the RX 9070 XT its mid-range pick.

Graphics card prices have climbed since launch, and Nvidia’s cards have climbed faster than AMD’s. PC Gamer’s August check found GeForce cards hit hardest, with memory the main driver. That changes which card is the better deal, so this guide compares prices and VRAM rather than launch-day recommendations.

Prices, MSRPs and percentages are from PC Gamer’s 18 August 2026 check (US, new cards from reputable retailers). *Price per GB is our own arithmetic. It is a rough yardstick that ignores speed, features and software, so use it to spot cards where you pay a lot for little memory, not to rank them. The RX 9070 GRE price needed a Newegg discount code, per PC Gamer.
What the numbers say
- Radeon prices rose less. The RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT sit 18% to 20% above MSRP in that table, while the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5080 sit 45% to 48% above.
- The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB is the outlier. At $779.99 it cost more than both the RTX 5070 and the RX 9070 XT, a gap PC Gamer called out directly.
- VRAM is becoming a requirement, not a luxury. Activision lists a 16GB card (RX 9070 XT or RTX 5070 Ti) for high ray tracing at 4K upscaled in Modern Warfare 4. Details are in our MW4 PC guide.
- Rumor Notebookcheck reported in July, citing an insider, that Nvidia planned further price increases of up to 30%. Nvidia has not confirmed it.
Which card for which buyer
- Our take Best value on these prices: the RX 9070 or RX 9070 XT. Both carry 16GB and cost less per GB than any GeForce card in the table. PC Gamer also names the RX 9070 best overall and the RX 9070 XT best mid-range.
- Choose GeForce when you depend on Nvidia-only features or software. You pay a premium for that right now, and you get 12GB on the RTX 5070.
- Skip the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB at about $780. It cost more than the RTX 5070, the RX 9070 and the RX 9070 XT, and the two Radeon cards carry the same 16GB.
- Tight budget: the RX 9060 XT 16GB at $469.99 was the lowest price per GB of VRAM in the table.

Should you wait?
Nvidia has not announced RTX 50 Super, but rumors point to CES 2027 and to more VRAM across the lineup (12GB, 18GB and 24GB models). We explain what is confirmed and what is not in Should You Wait for CES 2027? If you also need more system memory, see How Much RAM Do You Need for Gaming in 2026?
