Research-based comparison. Prices and benchmarks are sourced and dated, not tested by us.

Quick answer

  • Speed: the sources we found put the 8GB RX 9060 XT about 3% to 5% ahead of the RTX 5060 at 1080p. That is a small gap.
  • Price: the lowest US listings on 26 October 2026 were $449 for the RTX 5060 and $459 for the 8GB RX 9060 XT. On cost per frame it is a tie.
  • Pick: RTX 5060 if you lean on DLSS and frame generation. RX 9060 XT 8GB if you want a little more raw speed. RX 9060 XT 16GB ($599) only if you want more memory and can pay $140 more.

These two cards fight over the same buyer: 1080p gaming on a budget that has been stretched by this year’s graphics card prices. Both launched at a $299 list price for the 8GB version. Today, neither sells close to that. This comparison puts the numbers side by side, shows where sources disagree, and ends with a decision table. We did not benchmark the cards ourselves.

How fast are they? Where sources disagree

SourceWhat it shows at 1080p
TechPowerUp (figures quoted in a forum thread about its RX 9060 XT 8GB review)Relative performance: RTX 5060 97%, RX 9060 XT 8GB 100%. That is AMD about 3% ahead.
The same postAverage FPS: RTX 5060 94.0, RX 9060 XT 8GB 91.2. That points the other way.
CheckFPS comparison pagePerformance index 60 for the RTX 5060 against 62 for the RX 9060 XT 8GB, which the page describes as about 5% faster on average.

The first two rows come from the same post and disagree. The poster notices it too and offers a likely reason: a plain average of frame rates lets a few games with very high frame rates, like esports titles, dominate, while a relative-performance figure treats each game more evenly. The takeaway is that the two cards are within a few percent of each other, and which one wins depends on the games you play. Treat any single chart claiming a clear winner with caution.

On features, PC Gamer’s graphics card price pages summarize it this way: the RTX 5060 has superior upscaling and frame generation technologies, while the RX 9060 XT has it beat on raw GPU power, including ray tracing.

Cost per frame

Set the RTX 5060 at a performance score of 100. If the 8GB RX 9060 XT is 3% to 5% faster, as the sources above suggest, it scores 103 to 105.

CardPerformance scorePrice (26 Oct)Score per $100 spent
RTX 5060100$44922.3
RX 9060 XT 8GB103 to 105$45922.4 to 22.9

The difference is under 3%. In practice the price on the day you buy decides it. If the gap between the two listings is more than about $20 either way, take the cheaper one.

8GB or 16GB?

The RX 9060 XT 16GB costs $140 more than the 8GB version on the tracker (30%). You are buying memory, not speed. We found no clean benchmark set that shows how much the 16GB card gains at 1080p today, so we do not claim a performance figure for it. What the prices do show: per gigabyte, the 16GB card is far cheaper ($37.44 against $57.38). If you plan to keep the card for years and play new releases with large textures, that is the argument for it. If you play mostly esports and older games, it is money you may not use.

Nvidia’s 16GB option, the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB, was $765 on the same tracker, $166 more than the 16GB AMD card.
